Malpais, Static, 2017
Inspired by past covers of the monthly travel magazine Arizona Highways (1970s-80s), this group of paintings depicts the idealized beauty of the American West, while inverting its natural color scheme to produce a sickly and strange monochromatic dreamscape. They are scenes intended to feel both familiar and foreign; reflecting the dual realities that co-exist in our polarized American society.
All paintings are 28 x 22" acrylic on canvas
